Offshore Wind Farm Operations & Maintenance

Scope and benefits of the study

The offshore wind industry has seen a dramatic increase in concern over the costs and practicalities of operations and maintenance (O&M). Better information on OPEX for planned wind farms offers investors less planning risk and makes investment more accessible and affordable. Operationally, developers need to know clearly what challenges and costs they are likely to face, either in starting up new-built wind farms or in refining their plans for the end of the warranty period.

O&M activities and costs is a sensitive subject and companies within the industry have been reluctant to share data until now, although recognising the benefits that it would bring. There has been no intermediary offering to gather and synthesise data in a confidential fashion, provide objective analysis of O&M problems and provide reliable benchmarks for O&M performance and practices. T.A. Cook will do just that.

Why you should read the study?

- Offshore wind farm operators and developers
·          Benchmark your operations against the rest of Europe
·          Get an overview on the development of operations and maintenance cost over the lifetime of offshore wind farm
·          Gain insights into the strategies of the most efficient wind farm operators
·          Learn which O&M strategies have proved successful and which ones will scale to meet future demand

- Component suppliers (OEMs)

The research will be based upon a variety of quantitative and qualitative techniques, including:

·         Surveys sent out to offshore wind farm operators and throughout the industry supply chain in Denmark, Sweden, Germany, The Netherlands, Belgium, Great Britain and Ireland
·          In-depth interviews with a wide selection of key contacts to build detailed analyses
·          Desk research incorporating currently available data

The study will be published in summer 2010.
