Scheduling work orders in SAP with the GWOS Graphical Work Order Scheduler (Fact Sheet)

GWOS Overview

The Graphical Work Order Scheduler (GWOS) allows full graphical manipulation of SAP PM work orders. GWOS supports the Scheduler/Planner to organise and allocate work orders accurately and with confidence.

GWOS allows the user to portray, analyse and optimise a wide range of work order data on a single screen. This might include:
• Colour coding of the work order status
• Dynamic screen display to reflect desired optimisation focus
• Best utilisation of staff resources

Using the drag and drop functionality, GWOS allows the user to allocate, move and action SAP work orders so that:
• The work order allocation can be compressed or expanded
• Individual or  numerous work orders can be rescheduled
• Start  and finish times and relationships can be set automatically
• Individual work orders or tasks can be identified with a “must start by” flag
• Sequences and relationships can be set and planned

GWOS reduces the time needed to prepare and clean work order-related data and lets the user view capacity from an overview perspective or, just as easily, dive into the detail.

In short, GWOS serves as a virtual cockpit from which the Planner or Scheduler can plan and track activities in a graphical display or, if desired, facilitate more detailed analysis in a tabular fashion.

By centrally bundling SAP maintenance work order data and displaying it in a single interface using easy-to-read symbols and charts, planning time can be reduced and planning accuracy increased by:
• Facilitating better organisation
• Using the “Project Mapping” function  to view  and optimise interdependencies
• Ensuring that tasks are not forgotten

Functionality and features

GWOS satisfies all demands relating to the visualisation of SAP PM maintenance work order planning and scheduling. Functionality and features include:

1. Transaction execution:
• Full SAP PM integration
• Dynamic scheduling directly from the bar display (Gantt chart)
• Shifting of job completion times using drag and drop
• Determination of critical paths from the Gantt chart
• Determination of flexible dependencies between tasks
• Access to individual work orders and jobs directly from the main screen
2. Various Gantt chart display options:
• Interdependencies and sequences between work orders
• Sub tasks within a work order
• Interdependencies and sequences within the work order
• Compression of sub tasks at the work order level
• Capacity and resource (manpower) availability and resource utilisation
• Critical paths for jobs
• Critical paths for projects

3. Selection criteria set by:
• Start and end times and dates
• Revision number, cost centre, business unit

4. General displays options:
• Planning and display of numerous jobs and tasks simultaneously
• Horizontal and vertical grid lines
• Horizontal and vertical fit-to-screen capability
• Day, week, month timescales
• Hard print capability using standard Microsoft Drivers

Technology

GWOS can be fully integrated into SAP. An eNetweaver version is currently being developed.

Training and knowledge transfer

For those wishing to install the full GWOS suite and capability, it is recommended that they plan for a five day training course. This encompasses the fundamentals of effective maintenance planning and scheduling, problem solving, GWOS operation and functionality and also an insight into the advanced features of the system for problem solving and maintenance optimisation.
