TPM – Total Productive Maintenance

Introduction of TPM was initiated and facilitated at ten European plants belonging to a company in the electronics industry.
TPM – Total Productive Maintenance – is a tool for maintenance and production used to increase productivity, reduce machine failures, reduce maintenance costs and increase the level of commitment of all employees.

It is begun by setting up a project organisation, an overall core team and a TPM organisation at the plants. After training for TPM officers as those who make TPM happen "on the spot", feasibility studies were carried out to work out the plant-specific approach within the overall framework, and to determine the starting position (baseline).

At all of the plants, TPM kick-offs were carried out for the managers, pilot areas were defined, employees were trained, and then TPM was started with a thorough cleaning of the pilot machine.

With help from the TPM team, employees on the spot worked out charts, met in teams, tracked key TPM data and carried out improvement measures.

At present expansion to other areas is being pressed forward at all of the plants.
